Fiddlesticks

Members are accepted into Fiddlesticks by audition. Members must be entering fifth grade or higher. Members must come to rehearsals and performances, practice and memorize their music, learn simple dance moves and interact with the audience.

Instruments: Violin, viola (must also read treble clef), cello, acoustic guitar

Audition Requirements
Violin, Viola:

1. One major scale, as many octaves as you are comfortable playing.
2. A piece of your own choosing that you feel highlights your playing.
3. Sight-reading
4. Cripple Creek, both the Tune and the Break lines at tempo quarter note = 144. If you don’t have a metronome, play it at the fastest tempo you can play accurately. Slower and accurate is preferable to faster but sloppy.

Cello:
1. One major scale, as many octaves as you are comfortable playing.
2. A piece of your own choosing that you feel highlights your playing.
3. Sight-reading
4. Cripple Creek, Tune only, at tempo quarter note = 144. If you don’t have a metronome, play it at the fastest tempo you can play accurately. Slower and accurate is preferable to faster but sloppy.
5. Cripple Creek bass line, pizzicato. You may be asked to play at your audition with a fiddle player.

Acoustic Guitar:
1. Play the chords to Cripple Creek with accurate rhythm at tempo quarter note = 144. You may be asked to play along with a fiddle player during the audition.
2. A piece of your own choosing that you feel highlights your playing.
